This was the case for a local woman who was sexually abused and trafficked by now-deceased billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
Unfortunately, it led to her death.
Although the details have just been made public, Wellington resident Carolyn Andriano was found dead of an accidental overdose at the Double Tree by Hilton in West Palm Beach back in May.
Andriano, who was 36 at the time, was found unresponsive in their room by her husband on May 23. In 2021, her testimony helped convict Epstein confidant Ghislaine Maxwell, who helped recruit young women to participate in the abuse that occurred at Epstein’s Palm Beach Mansion. She testified in 2021 that she became addicted to “pain pills and cocaine” in order to “to block out” Epstein’s sexual abuse. She said Epstein had abused her for four years starting in 2001 when she was just 14-years-old.
GOLDLAW’s Chief Legal Officer, Spencer Kuvin, litigated against Epstein for over a decade, and represented nine of his victims, although Carolyn Andriano was not one of them. WPEC 12 News asked him about the impact Andriano’s nightmare experiences with Epstein may have had on her tragic death.
“Even though Epstein is dead, and Maxwell is behind bars, victims of Jeffrey Epstein will live forever with the abuse that occurred to them,” Kuvin said.
Recently, many of Epstein’s survivors were paid out in settlements from financial giants JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank.
But years ago, Kuvin said many victims didn’t have the financial resources they needed to deal with the mental and emotional pain years of abuse caused.
“A lot of society, including the State Attorney’s Office and federal investigators at the time, were in complete disbelief. These young women had to convince adults what was happening to them,” Kuvin explained, because for years, they were denied by potential partners and family members.
“It wasn’t until the MeToo movement came out that all of a sudden there was a support system for these women, but unfortunately for some, it was too late.”
Carolyn Andriano is the second Epstein survivor known to suffer a fatal overdose in Palm Beach County. Leigh Skye Patrick died at age 29 in 2017.
