The Nebraska Trafficking Case
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Nebraska, five people were arrested this week after a coordinated investigation revealed a trafficking conspiracy operating across western and central Nebraska. The defendants face charges of labor trafficking, sex trafficking, harboring undocumented individuals, and money laundering.
Those charged include:
- Kentakumar “Ken” Chaudhari, 36, Elkhorn, NE
- Rashmi “Falguni” Samani, 42, Elkhorn, NE
- Amit “Amit” Chaudhari, 32, Omaha, NE
- Amit “Matt” Chaudhari, 33, Omaha, NE
- Maheshkumar “Mahesh” Chaudhari, 38, Norfolk, NE
Authorities confirmed that 10 children and 17 adults were rescued. Victims were forced to work long hours for little or no pay, required to live in cockroach-infested hotel rooms, and subjected to both labor and sex trafficking.
Investigators also discovered drug trafficking activity at the hotels, several overdose deaths, and over $565,000 in cash connected to the scheme. Search warrants were executed at multiple “Brow and Lash” salons across Omaha linked to the traffickers.
Federal prosecutors condemned the crimes as “modern-day slavery” and emphasized that the victims will now have access to resources, safety, and justice.
