The two-day conference brought together professionals from multiple disciplines to discuss issues affecting children and strategies to help protect them from harm. Two GOLDLAW attorneys contributed their experience representing survivors of sexual abuse, assault, and trafficking to these important conversations.
Michael H. Kugler, GOLDLAW’s Director of Litigation, delivered a special keynote address on September 23, followed later that afternoon by Chief Legal Officer Spencer T. Kuvin’s presentation, “Epstein & Beyond,” examining the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

Guardians for New Futures, Inc. is a registered nonprofit organization established in 1991 with a mission to support the unfunded needs of abused children and underserved youth while increasing community awareness and education to further protect children.
Held annually since 2011, the Treasure Coast Child Summit provides an educational and training opportunity for professionals who work closely with children, as well as others interested in issues affecting children in their communities.
This year’s summit brought together law enforcement, child advocates, healthcare professionals, and other experts to share knowledge about child abuse, safety, prevention, and other issues affecting children.

Michael Kugler Examined Trust, Power, and Sexual Predation
On September 23, GOLDLAW Director of Litigation Michael H. Kugler delivered a special keynote examining cases he has prosecuted in both criminal and civil court against sexual predators.
Drawing from those cases, Kugler provided attendees with insight into how sexual predators may deliberately gain access to victims and cultivate their trust before abuse begins.
His presentation also addressed strategies law enforcement and prosecutors can use to gather stronger evidence and build cases for prosecution.
Through cases involving both child and adult victims, Kugler explored two recurring forces in sexual predation: trust and power.
Kugler has dedicated his legal career to advocating for victims and approaches his work with tenacity, compassion, and respect. Today, as GOLDLAW’s Director of Litigation, he helps lead the firm’s litigation team in representing individuals and families harmed by the negligence and wrongdoing of others.

Spencer Kuvin Presented “Epstein & Beyond”
Later that afternoon, GOLDLAW Chief Legal Officer Spencer T. Kuvin, Esq., BCS, presented “Epstein & Beyond,” focusing on the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
Kuvin brought more than 25 years of experience representing survivors of sexual abuse and assault to the discussion.
For nearly two decades, he has litigated matters involving Jeffrey Epstein and represented nine survivors, including Jane Doe #1 in Palm Beach, who was 14 years old at the time of the abuse.
His experience also includes high-profile civil litigation involving sexual abuse, wrongful death, and personal injury.
During his Treasure Coast Child Summit presentation, Kuvin drew upon that experience while examining the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and its significance in the broader effort to hold perpetrators and other responsible parties accountable for trafficking and abuse.
