About The South Florida Fair
Oh, how things have changed. The South Florida Fair came from humble beginnings. In March 1912, a handful of prominent local citizens created the Palm Beach County Fair. Taking place under a single tent in Downtown West Palm Beach, it showcased local livestock, crops, and real estate, with farmers receiving monetary prizes from Henry Flagler.
Over the years, the fair took place at a number of locations in the West Palm Beach area, including the National Guard Armory, Morrison Field, – now Palm Beach International Airport – the Palm Beach Speedway, (near the present site of the current Fairgrounds), and John Prince Memorial Park.
In 1957, the Fair bought the 35-acre Palm Beach Speedway property. In exchange for the property at John Prince Memorial Park, Palm Beach County donated about 100 acres adjacent to the Speedway. Construction on two exhibition halls began later that summer, and in 1958, the Fair began operating in its present location. In 1960, the Palm Beach County Fair was renamed the South Florida Fair.
