Traffickers don’t always use chains. More often, they use charm, lies, threats, and manipulation.
Many survivors of sex trafficking don’t realize they were being exploited until years later — because they were groomed, isolated, and psychologically controlled.
At GOLDLAW, we help survivors understand what happened — and why none of it is their fault.
What Is Grooming?
Grooming is the process traffickers use to build trust and break down boundaries. It often includes:
- Giving gifts or attention
- Making the victim feel special or “chosen”
- Isolating them from friends or family
- Slowly introducing sexual content or favors
- Creating dependency on the trafficker for money, housing, or love
Victims are often told they’re in a relationship — not being exploited. That’s part of the trap.
What Is Gaslighting?
Gaslighting is when an abuser manipulates someone into questioning their reality. Traffickers use this to maintain control:
- “You wanted this.”
- “No one will believe you.”
- “You’re the one who seduced me.”
- “I’m the only one who cares about you.”
- “You’re not a victim — you’re a partner.”
These lies are designed to keep survivors silent and compliant. We help you cut through that fog.
Why Don’t Victims Just Leave?
Because it’s not that simple. Traffickers use fear, shame, addiction, threats, and even love as weapons. Many survivors:
- Are afraid for their lives
- Are protecting their families or children
- Have nowhere else to go
- Don’t recognize what’s happening as abuse
- Have been told they deserve it
Legal Justice Is Possible — And Powerful
Civil lawsuits give survivors a way to fight back. GOLDLAW helps survivors file claims against:
- Traffickers
- Businesses that turned a blind eye
- Hotels or landlords that hosted exploitation
- Websites or social platforms that facilitated abuse
